The Volkswagen design team named their new single-seat car “Egoista” after the word for “selfish” in Spanish. This choice of name perfectly encapsulates the car’s design philosophy, as it is meant to be enjoyed by only one lucky driver. While it may not see mass production, the Egoista will certainly make a striking addition to any car show display. Interestingly, Lamborghini takes a different approach to naming their cars, using actual bull names for almost all of their models. The Egoista features subtle bull motifs on its sides, including a hidden design element between the front and rear wheels. A small blue light above the side skirt also serves as a nod to the bull’s eye.
“I have a strong passion for this company’s cars, so with my design team, we decided to create a vehicle that would showcase our emotions for this brand,” said the project’s creative director and leader of Volkswagen’s design team, Walter De Silva. The car was unveiled at a private event during Lamborghini’s 50th anniversary celebration. It is said that the sculpture, resembling a spacecraft, features a 5.2-liter V10 engine with 600 horsepower mounted on its wheels.
The Lamborghini Egoista boasts two distinct wings in place of a rear spoiler, reminiscent of the Pagani Huayra, but it’s unclear whether they function as active aerodynamic elements. The interior of this supercar features a dominant finish of carbon fiber and aluminum. According to Walter De Silva, the car’s design drew inspiration from fighter jets, which is evident in some of its accents. Unlike the Veneno, which was created for only a select few customers, the Egoista won’t fall into the hands of any collector. It was a gift from the VW Group to Lamborghini on their 50th anniversary.
