Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the Vision EQ Silver Arrow show car, an impressive tribute to the legendary W 125 car from 1937, which holds several records. With this innovative creation, the brand demonstrates its respect for its remarkable history while showcasing its future design direction. The Vision EQ Silver Arrow features a futuristic and streamlined design that blends tradition and novelty in a perfect mix, captivating car enthusiasts worldwide.
Daimler’s marketing department has introduced a new concept called “Progressive Luxury,” which is described as a combination of digital and analog elements, as well as a seamless blend of intuitive and physical design. This sounds so intriguing that we just had to mention it here. To understand what this means, one only needs to look at the Vision EQ Silver Arrow show car.
The Mercedes Benz Vision EQ Silver Arrow is a futuristic electric car that boasts a robust 550 kW (750 hp) output. Its slim rechargeable battery located under the car’s body has a capacity of approximately 80 kWh, which allows it to travel over 400 km, according to the WLTP. The battery can be cooled with the help of side air vents. However, the concept of this vehicle is not centered around its technical features, but rather on the innovative future that Mercedes Benz envisions for their cars.
Vision EQ Silver Arrow pays tribute to the iconic Silver Arrows with its alubeam silver paintwork. The original Silver Arrows were silver not for aesthetics, but to reduce weight by eliminating a layer of white paint. The Vision EQ Silver Arrow aims to be a blend of past and future, featuring classic materials such as polished aluminum, leather, and solid walnut alongside high-tech features like a curved panoramic screen with back projection and a touchscreen integrated into the steering wheel.
The design of the Vision EQ Silver Arrow is truly stunning. Its length of 5.3 meters and height of one meter are complemented by its sensuous curves, making it a masterpiece of automotive design. Unlike traditional cars made of aluminum, the Vision EQ Silver Arrow is crafted from carbon fiber that has been coated in multiple layers of alubeam silver paintwork, creating a liquid metal look that perfectly captures the essence of dynamism. It’s as if the car’s body has melted and then solidified to embody movement and energy.
The front wheels of the car have 255/25 R 24 tires while the rear wheels have larger 305/25 R 26 tires, all of which are designed by Pirelli and feature a unique star pattern on the tread. The wheels have non-rotating hubcaps, partial trim, and are made of light aluminum material painted in EQ’s rose gold color. There are 168 spokes per wheel making up the multi-spoke design. The driver’s cockpit can be folded forwards, and the car has two extendible rear spoilers that act as air brakes to increase wind resistance during deceleration.
The interior of the car boasts a huge panoramic 3D screen that provides an immersive experience of racing against iconic Silver Arrow cars, both past and present. This feature truly makes the car a spectacle to behold. Moreover, there is a function called the Virtual Race Coach Assistance that guides the driver on how to improve their driving skills during the virtual race, elevating the concept of the car to a whole new level as a massive virtual reality machine.
The steering wheel of the car is equipped with a touchscreen that allows the driver to choose between various driving modes. These modes include Comfort, Sport, and Sport+, each with distinct driving characteristics. Additionally, sound settings can also be adjusted through the touchscreen, offering options such as the sound of a Formula One Silver Arrow or a Mercedes-AMG V8 engine.
Mercedes-Benz has plans to heavily invest in electric vehicles, however, the introduction of their Vision EQ Silver Arrow may suggest that the company remains true to its origins. This is a positive indication for the brand.
